YELLOWKNIFE October 29, 2021 – The number of individuals with active COVID-19 in Hay River and K'atl'odeeche First Nation is not yet consistently trending in a downward direction. There continues to be positive COVID-19 infections occurring with no clear chain of transmission indicating community spread is occurring. This evidence demonstrates to the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) that this outbreak is not yet contained and under control.
After consulting with local leadership in the Communities, the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) is announcing an extension to the Gathering Restrictions – Hay River and the K’atl’odeeche First Nation Reserve Lands (Hay River Reserve) Temporary COVID-19 Restrictions through to 11:59PM on November 14, 2021.
The CPHO continues to work closely with the local community Governments, Hay River Health and Social Services and the COVID Secretariat on the response to the COVID-19 activity in the communities.
Residents in K’atl’odeeche First Nation are asked not to trick or treat this Halloween weekend and must limit their Halloween celebrations to only members of their household. COVID Secretariat worked closely with Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority to put together packages with information on how to safely isolate that includes treats and activities for households, especially the children.

The CPHO would like to remind all residents that the most important thing they can do to protect themselves from severe outcomes from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. All residents 12 years of age and older who have not yet received two doses of the vaccination should make arrangements to get fully vaccinated. Additionally those individuals eligible for the booster dose, residents 18 and older where more than six months has passed since their second dose, should make an appointment for the booster dose.
