25 Northerners Honoured with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal

YELLOWKNIFE (July 5, 2012) – Twenty-five Northwest Territories residents from Deline, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River and Yellowknife are receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of their outstanding service to their communities and territory.

 Medals have been or will be presented at community ceremonies by Commissioner George Tuccaro, Premier Robert (Bob) McLeod, Senator for the Northwest Territories Nick Sibbeston, Member of Parliament, Western Arctic Dennis Bevington and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

 “The Diamond Jubilee Medal recognizes the outstanding contributions that Canadians from every walk of life have made to their communities, their territory and their country,” said Premier McLeod.  “I want to join with the Commissioner, Senator, MP, MLAs and Regional Aboriginal leaders in congratulating each of the recipients for dedicating their time to making our communities stronger and healthier.”

 The Diamond Jubilee Medal was created by the Government of Canada as part of year-long celebrations marking the 60^th anniversary of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Premier, Commissioner, Member of Parliament for the Western Arctic and Senator for the Northwest Territories are partners with the federal government in the medal program.

 Public nominations for Diamond Jubilee Medals to be presented later this year are being accepted until September 15, 2012. Visit www.gov.nt.ca for information and nomination forms.
